HAJJ HAS THREE FARÂID (FARDS) (I)

Hajj is not sahîh if any one of these three farâid is omitted.

1 - Ihrâm, which means to impose some prohibitions on yourself, consists of niyya (intention) and dhikr [telbiya]. It is similar to the takbîr of iftitâh as you begin performing a namâz. It is symbolized by a special garment which, like large bath towels, consists of two white pieces of cloth, one of which is wrapped around that part of the body below the waist and the other is wrapped around the shoulders. It is not fastened with thread or secured with knots. It is for this reason that these two pieces of cloth assumed have been termed ‘ihrâm’. Before beginning the Tawâf, it is sunnat to wrap the Ihrâm round the upper part of body, with the middle part of the ihrâm under the right arm and its two ends on the left shoulder.

TAKBÎRS OF TESHRÎQ

From morning prayer on the ’Arafa day, that is, the day preceding the ’Eid of Qurbân, until after late afternoon prayer on the fourth day, which amounts to twenty three prayers of namâz in all; it is wâjib for everyone, men and women alike, for hadjis and for those who are not making the hajj, for those who are performing namâz in jamâ’at and for those who are performing it alone to say the Takbîr-i teshrîq once immediately after making the salâm in any namâz that is fard (or when making qadâ of any fard namâz for the days of this Eid). It is not said after the namâz of janâza. It is not necessary to say it after leaving the mosque or if you have spoken (after the namâz).

If the imâm forgets the takbîr, the jamâ’at must not omit it. Men may say it audibly. Women say it in a soft whisper.

The Takbîr-i Teshrîq:

“ALLÂHU AKBAR, ALLÂHU AKBAR. LÂ ILÂHA ILLALLAH. WALLAHU AKBAR. ALLÂHU AKBAR WA LILLÂHILHAMD.”
